Technical Sales Representative - Building Products - Base Salary to 115k/year - Chicago, Il
- • Founded in 1948, our client is a specialty building products manufacturer that provides innovative solutions to the everyday building challenges faced by architects, designers, building owners, facility managers, and contractors. Since inventing the first extruded louver, they have become a global leader across all product categories, with solutions featured in some of the world’s most iconic structures—from the Burj Khalifa in Dubai to the Oculus at the World Trade Center Transit Hub in Manhattan.
- They are seeking someone with a unique blend of technical acumen and sales to step into a Technical Sales Representative position to support continued growth of their custom architectural exterior and facade solutions, including aluminum screens, perforated panel systems, and highly engineered exterior products. This role is a technically demanding, specification-driven position that partners closely with architects, consultants, and independent sales representatives to guide projects from concept through execution.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the technical product expert and design-assist lead for custom architectural facade solutions.
- Drive specification sales efforts, engaging architects, facade consultants, designers, and owners early in the design process.
- Partner closely with independent sales representatives, enabling them with technical guidance, positioning, and pursuit strategy.
- Identify, qualify, and advance long-cycle project opportunities (6–12+ months) through the sales pipeline.
- Support design development, including review of architectural drawings, preliminary system concepts, and constructability considerations.
- Collaborate with inside sales, estimating, engineering, and marketing teams to develop specifications, review pricing, and align project scope.
- Translate research, training, and market insights into clear product positioning and go-to-market strategies.
- Provide consultative support on custom, high-end, and non-standard facade applications where competitors often fall short.
- Support pre-bid and post-award phases to ensure technical accuracy, scope clarity, and profitable execution.
- Represent the company at client meetings, design reviews, and industry engagements to grow market presence and credibility.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in architectural facade systems, building envelope solutions, or architectural exterior products.
- Strong technical foundation with the ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and details.
- Experience supporting specification-driven or design-assist sales within long-cycle construction environments.
- Working knowledge of estimating and sales processes, including scope development and pricing review.
- Proven ability to collaborate with architects, consultants, general contractors, and internal technical teams.
- Comfortable operating as a technical lead rather than a traditional quota-carrying salesperson.
- Willingness to travel up to ~50% as needed (remote-based role within the U.S.).
Compensation:
- Base salary in the 70k - 115k/year range
