Research Security Analyst - Office of Research Security
The Research Security Analyst will play a key role in ORS's mission to support investigators and departmental staff in complying with rapidly developing research security regulatory actions. As a member of the ORS team, the Research Security Analyst will assist in restricted party screening, disclosure and publication reviews and work closely with ORS staff to mitigate research security issues. This position is critical to the university's responsibility to comply with sponsor terms, identify potential research security compliance risks, and to maintain the integrity of our institution.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Serving as the point of contact for systems within ORS including its training system and disclosure system. Monitoring training, disclosure, and management plan compliance and communicating deficiencies with applicable unit staff.
- Analyzing disclosures, sponsored project proposal and award documentation, sponsor policies, and publications. Conducting restricted party screenings. Conducting and assembling portfolio reviews. Identifying and characterizing potential research security risks. Under supervision of the director, drafting risk mitigation plans.
- Developing and updating educational resources for stakeholder groups including faculty, staff, students, and non-UI persons required to comply with research security requirements on an award.
- Maintaining and updating ORS website and resources. Assisting in the development of data analytic and reporting systems, including PowerBI.
- Establishing professional rapport with departmental offices and central offices. Providing advice on processes to continually improve our services.
- Other contributions aligned with goals of identifying and mitigating research security risk.
- Bachelor's degree
- A total of two (2) years (24 months) in education, training, and/or work experience in sponsored research, regulatory compliance, data analytics and/or similar role working in a university and/or government setting
- Experience with Strider, Dimensions, or similar tool
- 5+ years working in research administration and regulatory compliance standards in an academic setting
- Illinois Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or hold a CRA certification
- Strong customer service skills demonstrated through responsive and professional interactions
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and represent ORS, OVCRI, and the University in a professional manner
- Ability to review and analyze sponsor requirements and monitor updates to those requirements
- Close cooperation and coordination with supervisor
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey information effectively and accurately
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- Knowledge of sponsored research activity within a university setting
- Ability to use good judgement and logic with attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to interpret rules, regulations, and policies for use in programs and processes
- Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent quality work product and high degree of professionalism
- Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
- Demonstrated experience managing short- and long-term projects
- Extensive use of Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook
- Demonstrated experience as a productive team member
