Position Summary
The Community-Based Doula supports healthy pregnancies, promotes breastfeeding, and builds trusting relationships with families before, during, and after birth. Through home visits, group-based services, and labor support, the Doula provides education, advocacy, and non-clinical birth support. This role is based out of our Main office in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago and primarily serves young mothers (ages 24 and under) living in Chicago, with some travel to the Western suburbs.

Starting Salary: $49,000 - $51,000 DOQ
What a Day Might Look Like
- Visiting a participant at home or community to discuss pregnancy, birth plans, comfort measures, newborn care and postpartum recovery
- Providing continuous, non-clinical labor and delivery support in a hospital or birth center
- Supporting a new parent with breastfeeding initiation and early bonding
- Facilitating or preparing for a prenatal care group
- Coordinating with coaches, healthcare providers, and community partners
- Documenting visits, assessments, and outcomes in required databases
- Responding to participant needs through phone, text, or the New Moms app
- Participating in the on-call rotation to support births as they occur
Key Responsibilities
- Provide labor and delivery support to an annual caseload of approximately 23 participants per year
- Conduct weekly prenatal and postpartum home visits using a culturally responsive approach
- Deliver education on birth preparation, parenting, child development, and family well-being
- Provide emotional support and mental health case management
- Facilitate prenatal care groups on a rotating basis and support additional group cycles as needed
- Collaborate with internal teams and community partners to connect families to resources
- Use digital tools and coaching platforms to maintain participant engagement
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation and support program compliance

Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
Experience:
- DONA and Parents as Teachers certifications preferred (or must obtain on-the-job)
- IL Doula Medicaid Certification preferred (or must obtain on-the-job)
- At least 1 year of related experience preferred
- Experience working with vulnerable populations and young parents preferred
- Experience collaborating with homeless or public service systems a plus
Skills & Traits:
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Cultural humility and trauma-informed approach
- Comfort using computers, Microsoft applications, and case management systems
Other Requirements:
- Valid drivers license, reliable car, and insurance required
- Ability to participate in an on-call rotation at least one week per month
Work Environment: Must be able to sit/stand for up to 8 hours, walk stairs, and lift up to 3040 lbs (or perform with reasonable accommodation). The work environment may vary, including hospitals, homes, and birth centers, with fluctuating noise levels and temperatures.
