Robotics AS/RS Mechatronics Maintenance Technician

About the Role

At Symbotic, you’ll keep a high‑throughput automated warehouse humming. As a Mechatronics Maintenance Technician focused on robotics and AS/RS, you’ll become the on‑site expert for our automated adapters, vertical lifts, robotic vehicles, and associated PLC/electrical subsystems. You will repair, calibrate, and optimize the equipment that moves product—safely, efficiently, and at scale.

A Day in the Life

• Begin with system walkdowns and inspections across automated adapters/lifts and the robotic fleet.
• Check CMMS for planned work, complete periodic inspections within expected timeframes, and document parts used and labor.
• Dial in performance—adjust, calibrate, repair, replace, or modify components to ensure continuous operation.
• Monitor the flow through adapters for manual inbound, automatic inbound, and automatic outbound to drive maximum throughput and cases/hour.
• Respond to anomalies and stoppages using schematics, wiring diagrams, and advanced test equipment; troubleshoot PLC-controlled subsystems.
• Perform robotic vehicle recovery in the Symbotic Matrix system, including work in restrictive areas when required.
• Set up, calibrate, and perform tool changes on robotic arms.
• Handle minor utility fabrication: machining holes/brackets, cutting steel, aligning sensors, attaching Unistrut, and similar tasks.
• Communicate production-impacting issues, recommended actions, and time-to-repair estimates to the right stakeholders.
• Wrap up with equipment cleanup, removal of replaced parts, and 5S housekeeping to maintain a world-class workspace.

What You’ll Own

• Inspections and preventive maintenance for Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS), adapters, lifts, and robotic vehicles.
• Rapid troubleshooting and recovery of automated robotic vehicles and robotic arms.
• Accurate CMMS documentation for all work performed, including parts and labor.
• Flexibility to pivot in a dynamic environment based on immediate business needs.
• Perform Cell Operator functions as needed and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or certification in electronics, automotive, automation, manufacturing, or equivalent experience (preferred).
• 3+ years with mechanical automation systems or equivalent education/training.
• Proven advanced troubleshooting ability and comfort reading electro‑mechanical diagrams.
• Hands‑on experience operating automated systems and troubleshooting PLCs.
• Proficient in inspection practices and able to work independently by following procedures and manuals.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Climb steep stairs within the structure; work near high railings.
• Work indoors with variable temperatures from 32° to 105° F.
• PPE required when the site is under construction (hard hat, safety vest, steel toes, eye/ear protection, fall protection such as a safety harness).
• Frequently lift up to 50 lbs safely; move items up to 80 lbs.
• Stand/walk 10–12 hours; frequent reaching with hands and arms.
• Operate at heights up to 45 feet and in restrictive spaces around 24 inches; climb/balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as work requires.
• Capable of feeling, seeing, hearing, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, balancing, gripping, climbing, crawling, sitting, handling objects, and repetitive motions using both hands and feet.
• Strict adherence to all safety requirements and protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).

• Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for planning and documentation.
• 5S practices for sustained cleanliness and organization.
