The Position

Our client is seeking to fill a Contract – Commercial Real Estate Underwriter role in the greater Chicago, IL market. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting and analyzing financial information for lending officers, credit officers, and Loan Committee to facilitate lending decisions primarily for Commercial Real Estate Loan Transactions.

The position includes a generous salary of up to $55/hr.

Commercial Real Estate Underwriter responsibilities include:

• Assisting and counseling originators in qualifying loans, determining borrower’s needs, determining appropriate commercial real estate loan product considering needs, and obtaining requisite financial data.
• Acting in a leadership role, as a mentor within the department to analysts of lesser experience.
• Reviewing credit requests, business credit scores, business reports, etc.
• Evaluating collateral adequacy, industry risk, purpose, and viability of the business.
• Obtaining and analyzing pertinent financial and credit data to assist in determining the risk of the loan.
• Determining appropriate structure and pricing considering borrower type, industry, collateral, and risk and documenting any deviations from the prescribed structure.
• Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of loan requests. Completing financial and repayment analysis with a focus on cash flow, liquidity, and leverage analysis.
• Running projections and performing standard commercial real estate property analysis.
• Thoroughly documenting the credit request in the appropriate format.
• Verifying underwriting conditions and additional approval requirements are satisfied.
• Ensuring effective communication between Relationship Managers, Loan Administration, Loan Documentation & Funding Control, and other departments involved in the loan process.
• Striving to minimize turnaround-time while thorough documenting credit requests.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or economics.
• Five or more years’ commercial real estate credit/lending experience required.
• Accounting/finance and commercial real estate credit analysis background strongly preferred.
• Ability to apply mathematical concepts and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to understand, analyze, and interpret financial statements, reports, and legal documents.
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; must be able to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.
