Location: Waukegan, IL (Northeastern Illinois)
Pay Rate: $19 – $24 per hour (based on experience)
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire

Position Overview:
Our client, a leading structural steel fabricator in Waukegan, IL, is seeking a reliable and experienced Painter to join their team. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with long-term potential for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

• Apply protective coatings to fabricated steel components using spray, brush, or roller techniques.

• Prepare surfaces according to SSPC (The Society for Protective Coatings) standards, including blasting and profiling.

• Accurately measure coating thickness using dry film thickness (DFT) gauges.

• Ensure all coatings meet required specifications and quality standards.

• Maintain proper documentation of completed work and inspections.

• Operate and maintain painting equipment and tools in safe working condition.

• Collaborate with fabrication and quality control teams to ensure timely completion of projects.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in industrial or structural steel painting.

• Working knowledge of SSPC surface preparation standards and coating systems.

• Proficient in using DFT gauges and assessing steel surface profiles.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

• Ability to read and interpret work orders and job specifications.

• Dependable and able to work independently or as part of a team.

Additional Information:

• Full-time, onsite role.

• Pay range is $15–$17 per hour, depending on experience.

• Contract-to-hire position with long-term opportunity.
