Moldmaker
Position Summary: Responsible for the manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of precision tools, molds, and dies used in the production process. This role requires a combination of technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with a variety of tools and machinery.
Primary/Essential Responsibilities:
- Construct, modify, and repair precision tools, molds, and dies according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Operate a variety of machinery, such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC machines, to shape and finish tools and components.
- Ensure that all manufactured tools meet quality standards and specifications through careful inspection and measurement.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with tools, molds, or dies to maintain efficient production processes.
- Work closely with engineers, designers, and other team members to understand project requirements and make adjustments as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of tool designs, modifications, and repairs. Document any changes made to tools for future reference.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Identify and address potential safety hazards
- Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
- Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
- Contribute to team effort by training others in performance of machinist tasks as needed
- Inspect all work prior to passing it on to the next operation
- Document actions by completing production and quality forms
- Communicate effectively with others at various levels of the organization.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in using various hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and machinery such as lathes and milling machines.
- High level of precision and attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems related to toolmaking and manufacturing processes.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools, technologies, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- High School diploma, GED or combination of work experience and skill development
- Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 or more years in precision machining
- Knowledge of shut-off surfaces versus molding surfaces
- Experience with machining components part of larger assemblies and an understanding of how each component fits
- Basic polishing and surface finishing experience
- Operation and understanding of EDM machines
