Overview

At Hometown Coffee & Juice, Baristas play a key role in delivering exceptional guest experiences through hospitality, speed, and technical coffee expertise. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to maintaining high beverage standards.

A successful barista at Hometown is more than just a coffee maker. Every detail matters—from dialing in espresso to ensuring each drink meets our quality standards.

Baristas are responsible for preparing both classic espresso beverages and seasonal specialty drinks while maintaining consistency, speed, and accuracy throughout service.

Key ResponsibilitiesQuality & Consistency

• Prepare high-quality espresso beverages with precision and consistency.

• Follow standardized recipes for both classic espresso drinks and Hometown’s rotating seasonal beverage menu.

• Maintain strict quality control for taste, texture, and presentation.

• Regularly dial in espresso and steam milk to ensure balanced, well-extracted drinks.

• Maintain bar standards that reflect Hometown’s commitment to specialty coffee.

Speed & Efficiency

• Work calmly and efficiently during peak service periods while maintaining beverage quality.

• Keep the espresso bar organized and stocked to support smooth workflow.

• Support team members during busy periods to ensure quick and accurate service.

• Assist with register operations and order flow during rushes.

Technical Skill & Coffee Knowledge

• Operate a manual espresso machine with confidence and consistency.

• Develop strong knowledge of Hometown’s beverage menu, ingredients, and brewing standards.

• Learn and operate the POS system (Toast) for order taking, payment processing, and guest interaction.

• Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and communicate maintenance needs to leadership.

Hospitality & Guest Experience

• Provide warm, welcoming, and attentive service to every guest.

• Anticipate customer needs and ensure every drink and interaction reflects Hometown’s hospitality standards.

• Handle guest concerns professionally and resolve issues quickly.

• Help create an environment where guests feel comfortable returning again and again.

Cleanliness & Sanitation

• Maintain a clean, organized espresso bar and workstation throughout the shift.

• Follow sanitation and food safety procedures at all times.

• Clean espresso machines, grinders, and equipment regularly to maintain optimal performance.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for long periods of time.

• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

• Ability to move quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced café environment.

Qualifications

• Previous barista experience operating a manual espresso machine preferred .

• Experience working in a fast-paced café environment.

• Ability to learn and operate POS systems (Toast experience is a plus).

• Strong communication, multitasking, and hospitality skills.

• Knowledge of coffee brewing methods and food safety practices (ServSafe is a plus).

Pay & Benefits

Hourly rate: $11–$12 per hour + approximately $6–$10 per hour in tips

Part-time positions available.
