What You Can Expect
As our Civil Engineering Manager, you will serve as the technical authority on Civil Engineering within the Distributed Solar and Storage team. You will lead all civil engineering activities supporting ground-mounted solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) distributed generation projects across the United States. This role is based in Chicago, IL (hybrid or remote) and reports to the Director of Engineering, Engineering & Delivery.
You will oversee civil design development from early-stage feasibility through construction, ensuring consistency, code compliance, and constructability. Your work will directly support development, permitting, construction, and long-term asset performance.
- Lead the internal Civil Engineering function within the Distributed Solar and Storage team
- Manage, mentor, and develop a Chicago-based civil engineering team supporting projects nationwide
- Establish and maintain civil engineering standards, design criteria, and best practices across U.S. jurisdictions
- Oversee and seal civil engineering designs and manage multi-state Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
- Support early-stage development by defining civil scope, evaluating site feasibility, and identifying civil risks
- Review civil drawings for compliance with ENGIE standards, ASCE 7, IBC, fire code, and local AHJ requirements
- Own civil engineering risks related to grading, drainage, foundations, access roads, stormwater, utilities, and constructability
- Coordinate with development, construction, procurement, category management, finance, and external consultants
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum ten (10) years of civil engineering experience, including leadership or management responsibilities
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license with the ability to obtain
- Experience supporting ground-mounted solar PV and BESS projects
- Experience working across multiple U.S. jurisdictions and permitting authorities
- Knowledge of ASCE 7, IBC, and civil/site design fundamentals
- Ability to interpret and apply geotechnical engineering reports, including foundation design parameters, earthwork recommendations, slope stability considerations, and ground improvement requirements
- Working knowledge of stormwater regulations and SWPPP requirements, including erosion and sediment control design, permitting support, and construction-phase compliance
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Ability to create, review, and interpret construction drawings and technical documents
- Judgment, ownership mentality, and collaborative approach
Additional Details
- Eligible for hybrid or remote work arrangement
- Up to 25% domestic travel required, including overnight trips
- Valid U.S. driver’s license required
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
Compensation
Salary Range: $148,500 – $205,000 USD annually
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
