Registered Nurse Job Details

• Location: Mount Vernon, IL 62864 (Illinois healthcare jobs)
• Assignment Type: Locum Tenens (Travel RN Contract)
• Unit: LDRP & Nursery (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum & Nursery)
• Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM); 3x12 or 4x12 shifts per week
• Duration: 8 weeks (potential for contract extension)
• Start Date: September 2, 2025
• Patient Ratios: 1:3
• Average Deliveries: 140–160 per month
• Weekend Coverage: 1 Friday, 1 Saturday, and 1 Sunday per 4-week schedule (not necessarily consecutive)
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $2020–$2070

RN Qualifications & Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Illinois or compact state)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor and Delivery nursing experience (LDRP & Nursery preferred)
• BLS and NRP certifications required
• AWHONN (Advanced, Beginner, or Intermediate), STABLE, and FHM certifications preferred
• Experience with Epic EMR charting system preferred
• Level 2 nursery experience, circulate, scrub, and triage skills preferred
• Ability to float between labor, mother/baby, or as a sitter on other clinical units as needed
• COVID-19 vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
• Completion of pre-start modules and OSHA Respirator Clearance (must be clean shaven for FIT testing)

Labor and Delivery Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care for laboring mothers, newborns, and postpartum patients in a Level 2 nursery setting
• Assist with labor and delivery, antepartum, and gynecological patients, including those with gestational hypertension, diabetes, and multiple births
• Perform and assist with unit procedures such as circumcisions, hearing screens, newborn screens, C-sections, and inductions of labor
• Provide patient education and discharge teaching to parents and families
• Administer medications, IVs, and blood products as needed
• Monitor and assess mother and baby, including APGAR scoring, fetal monitoring, and newborn assessments
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and social services
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Epic EMR (preferred)
• Adhere to infection control, patient safety, and hospital protocols at all times
