Medical Surgical RN Job Details

• Job Title: Travel Medical Surgical RN (Locum Tenens)
• Location: Springfield, IL 62781 (Illinois nursing jobs)
• Healthcare Setting: Acute Care Hospital – Level I Trauma Center, Magnet Facility
• Unit: 2G Bariatrics/Plastics (22-bed general status unit)
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (10/6/2025 – 1/5/2026)
• Shift: 3x12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15), every other weekend required
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2000-$2050
• Charting System: Cerner
• Scrub Color: Any solid color
• Parking: Free with permit

Med/Surg RN Qualifications

• Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license required at time of application
• Minimum 2 years of recent Medical Surgical RN experience (travel nursing experience required)
• BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross only)
• Experience with telemetry, remote monitoring, rapid response teams, and emergency response
• Proficiency in wound care, surgical drain management, and post-operative care
• Familiarity with Cerner electronic charting system
• Ability to float to other hospital units within scope as needed
• Must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignment
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)

Key Responsibilities for Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult patients undergoing bariatric and plastic surgeries, wound management, and med/surg overflow
• Perform patient assessments, administer medications (Heparin, Insulin, PCA), and manage IV therapy (blood products, central/PICC/peripheral lines)
• Monitor and respond to telemetry and rapid response situations
• Manage respiratory support including CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy care, and oxygen therapy
• Provide specialized care for patients with colostomies, feeding tubes, renal failure, and post-hemodialysis management
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, social services, etc.)
• Educate patients and families on post-surgical care, wound management, and discharge planning
• Float to other nursing units as required to support hospital needs
