Travel Surgical Tech Job Details

• Location: Springfield, IL (62781) – Premier destination for Illinois healthcare jobs with excellent amenities and cultural attractions.

• Position Type: Travel Surgical Technologist
• Assignment Length: 18-26 weeks
• Start Date: September 29, 2025
• End Date: February 2, 2026
• Shift: Day Shift, 5x8-Hour Days (06:45 - 15:15)
• Hours per Week: 40
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $1850-$1890
• Weekend Requirement: Once a month, 16 hours per contract
• On-Call: As needed for department
• Floating: Required within scope of practice

Surgical Technologist Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of recent Surgical Tech experience in a hospital or acute care setting
• Prior travel surgical tech experience required
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross only)
• CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification preferred
• Ability to float within scope of practice
• Must reside more than 50 miles from facility (travel assignment requirement)
• Must arrive in Illinois 3 business days prior to start for fingerprinting (if no state license required)
• Experience with Cerner charting preferred
• Ability to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during assignment
• Compliance with hospital background and onboarding requirements
• Strong clinical skills in General OR, teaching hospital, and trauma cases
• Required experience in ENT, endoscopic, general surgery, gynecology, neurosurgery, oral, orthopedic, plastic, trauma, urology, and emergency management procedures
• Expertise in aseptic technique, isolation precautions, radiation safety, sharps safety, specimen handling/labeling, and universal protocol

Surgical Tech Responsibilities

• Assist in surgical procedures across multiple specialties: general, trauma, neuro, ortho, ENT, gynecology, urology, and plastics
• Prepare operating rooms, ensuring all surgical equipment and supplies are ready
• Maintain strict aseptic technique and adhere to hospital safety protocols
• Support surgeons and surgical teams during procedures, anticipating needs and responding efficiently
• Float to other units within scope of practice as needed
• Participate in emergency management and fire safety procedures
• Accurately handle and label surgical specimens
• Document surgical procedures and patient information using Cerner EMR
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, and rapid response
• Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism in a fast-paced, high-volume surgical environment (50-60 cases/day)
