Payroll Specialist

Job Title: Payroll Specialist
Location: Chicago, IL
Compensation: $55,000 – $62,000

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team in Chicago, IL. This role is critical in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, with a strong focus on union payroll compliance and advanced Excel proficiency.

As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for handling complex payroll processes, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with union agreements and labor regulations. You’ll also be instrumental in analyzing payroll data and improving reporting through strong Excel skills.

• Process weekly/bi-weekly payroll for union and non-union employees

• Interpret and apply multiple union contracts to ensure accurate wage and benefit calculations

• Maintain accurate payroll records, deductions, and garnishments

• Collaborate with HR and Accounting to reconcile payroll-related discrepancies

• Prepare payroll reports and conduct audits to ensure compliance with company policies and government regulations

• Utilize Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas) for reporting and data analysis

• Stay updated on payroll best practices and labor law change.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of payroll experience, with strong emphasis on union payroll

• In-depth knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and prevailing wage requirements

• Advanced Excel skills – must be comfortable working with large datasets, pivot tables, and formulas

• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines

• Excellent communication and organizational skills

• Experience with major payroll systems (ADP, Paychex, etc.) a plus

• CPP certification preferred but not required
