Assistant General Manager (Chicago)

Grace Management, Inc. is seeking an energetic and compassionate Assistant General Manager to support The Hallmark, a premier senior living community located in downtown Chicago.
In this key leadership role, the Assistant General Manager partners closely with and reports to the General Manager , playing an essential part in driving overall operations, enhancing the resident experience, and supporting the community’s financial performance. The position requires hands-on assisted living operations experience and values prior independent living leadership exposure.
The AGM ensures operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and a hospitality-driven culture while fostering a warm, welcoming environment where residents thrive and team members feel supported, valued, and empowered—reflecting Grace Management’s mission, values, and service standards.

Key Responsibilities
Operations & Leadership
- Partner with the General Manager to support daily operations across assisted living and independent living services
- Provide direct leadership oversight within assisted living operations, ensuring care coordination, service quality, staffing effectiveness, and regulatory compliance
- Support independent living programming, hospitality operations, and resident engagement initiatives
- Serve as acting General Manager in their absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and operational stability
- Collaborate with department leaders to achieve occupancy, satisfaction, and financial performance goals
Resident & Family Experience
- Ensure residents receive exceptional care, services, and hospitality-focused experiences
- Serve as a visible leader within the community, actively engaging with residents and families
- Address residents and family concerns promptly, professionally, and with empathy
- Support quality-of-life initiatives, events, and programs tailored to both assisted and independent living residents
Financial & Administrative Support
- Assist with budgeting, expense management, and revenue optimization
- Support census growth, resident retention, and move-in coordination in partnership with sales and operations teams
- Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and adherence to Grace Management policies and procedures
Team Member Leadership & Development
- Assist in recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance management of team members
- Provide ongoing coaching and operational support to assisted living leadership and frontline teams
- Promote engagement, accountability, and professional development across departments
- Support staffing plans and scheduling to meet operational and care requirements
Compliance & Risk Management
- Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and local regulations governing assisted living operations
- Support survey readiness, audits, inspections, and corrective action planning
- Promote safety, infection control, risk mitigation, and quality assurance practices
- Ensure a clean, well-maintained, and welcoming community environment
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2–4 years of assisted living operations experience, including regulatory compliance and team oversight required
- Demonstrated understanding of resident care coordination, staffing models, and operational workflows within assisted living
- Independent Living operational or leadership experience preferred, including hospitality-focused service delivery
- Experience working within the downtown Chicago senior living or hospitality market preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, hospitality management, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience
Knowledge of Illinois senior living regulations required
- Experience supporting census growth, resident retention, and community engagement initiatives
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service abilities
- Proven ability to lead effectively in a fast-paced, resident-centered environment
