Accessibility Mapper - Midwest (project based)
Overview
As an Accessibility Mapper at Wheel the World, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accessibility of travel experiences for people with disabilities. You will be responsible for conducting on-site assessments of hotels, restaurants, and attractions across various destinations, ensuring they meet the accessibility standards set by Wheel the World. Your work will directly impact the quality of information we provide to our users, making travel more inclusive and worry-free.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive accessibility assessments at hotels, restaurants, and attractions across various cities.
- Ensure data accuracy and completeness by adhering to Wheel the World’s accessibility mapping standards.
- Engage with local partners and Destination Marketing Offices (DMOs) to collaborate on mapping projects and ensure their active involvement.
- Travel on short notice to various destinations to complete urgent mapping projects, resolving challenges that may arise during the process.
- Re-engage unresponsive partners and provide them with support and guidance on accessibility standards.
- Maintain and manage the collected data using Wheel the World’s Accessibility Mapping System (AMS).
- Provide on-site training and support to partners, educating them on accessibility importance and best practices.
- Solve complex logistical challenges that may impact project timelines and deliverables.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment with broader operational goals and marketing strategies.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in field-based work, data collection, or accessibility assessments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with local partners and stakeholders.
- Ability to travel frequently, sometimes on short notice, and manage logistics independently.
- Problem-solving mindset, with the ability to adapt and think creatively in dynamic environments.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards and mapping tools is a plus.
- Passion for making travel more accessible for people with disabilities.
Working Dynamics
- Mapper has to set availability for the next 4 weeks, and have a home break for one week, up to two weeks if required and not needed in the operation.
- The maximum amount of time in destination will be 4 weeks when required.
- The main tasks this role will face on a day to day:
- Ensure mapping lists are ready and correctly assigned in the AMS and uploaded in the WTW Back Office system.
- Execute mappings in destination, making sure all of them are submitted into the AMS without missing required fields, but also coordinating with DMO if required to fulfill the mapping amount.
Nice to Have
- Car license to facilitate travel between mapping locations.
- Knowledge of tourism, accessibility, or disability-related industries.
- Experience with Wheel the World’s Accessibility Mapping System (AMS) or similar tools.
This would be under a contractor - non full-time employee commitment.
