Job Summary

The Buyer Intern is on-site located in Downers Grove, IL at the CITGO Refinery Support Center. Intern is expected to work between 20-28 hours per week, Monday - Friday during business hours (7:00AM - 5:00 PM). Intern may work 40 hours over summer/winter break(s).

This position provides procurement support in accordance with company procedures and strategic goals while under the direct supervisor’s guidance. Assists or performs the following duties: places purchase orders; selects and negotiates with approved vendors and evaluates vendor reliability; obtains materials from suppliers at the lowest cost, with consideration to quality, reliability and urgency of need; schedules deliveries and follows up on orders to expedite delivery and shipment; obtains certifications of delivery and approves payment invoices for orders placed. Maintains records and files as needed. Performs basic analytical tasks and industry research.

Compensation is based on the number of completed credit hours and ranges from $19.96 to $29.94 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

  • College Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate level studying Supply Chain Management, Business, Accounting,Finance, Economics, Marketing or related diciplines.
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 (Must provide proof of current GPA at time of hire to verify eligibility requirements are met)
  • Working knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional demeanor.
  • Incumbents will be required to communicate effectively with all levels.
  • Authority to transact to implement strategy will be dependent on level of experience and demonstrated results.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Valid drivers' license.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker's Identification Credential (TWIC).

Job Duties

1. . Source and create purchase orders for items in accordance with established company policies and procedures. Purchase Orders to be reviewed and released by Purchasing Agents

2. Assist Purchasing Agents in the bid and evaluation process

3. Serve as liaison between Procurement and Accounting resolving invoice issues

4. Sit in as observer on negotiations with suppliers conducted by Purchasing Agents

5. Provide files for proper electronic filing of contract and maintain files for bids as required for audit purposes as well as historical activity.

6. Assist Purchasing Agents by reviewing terms, conditions and pricing.

7. Perform routine and repetitive duties independently and according to the established procedures and practices.

8. Performs more complex assignments with direct guidance from supervision
