As a Precision Tooling Technician, you’ll be the go-to expert who keeps production moving. You will craft, repair, and perfect the jigs, fixtures, dies, gauges, and precision components our operations depend on. Your craftsmanship will reduce downtime, improve tooling life, and elevate product quality.

A day in this role

Picture your shift: you start by reviewing work orders and engineering drawings for a new fixture, verify tolerances with micrometers and height gauges, and choose the right process—turning, milling, grinding, or EDM. Mid-morning, you set up a CNC mill, tweak a program for finish quality, and run a first article. After lunch, you sharpen a broach, rebuild a worn die, document the repair, then collaborate with maintenance and engineering to eliminate a recurring tool failure. You wrap up with housekeeping and lockout/tagout checks—ready for the next challenge.

What you’ll handle

• Build, repair, and maintain tooling, fixtures, gauges, jigs, dies, and prototype parts to engineering drawings and specs.
• Interpret blueprints, schematics, and work orders; verify dimensions and tolerances with precision instruments.
• Operate manual and CNC equipment: lathes, vertical/horizontal mills, surface grinders, EDM, drill presses, and tool grinders.
• Program and set up CNC machines as needed; perform troubleshooting and minor program edits.
• Execute precision operations: turning, milling, drilling, grinding, broaching, reaming, and tapping.
• Rebuild, sharpen, and sustain cutting tools, dies, and fixtures; manage tool inventories and lubrication schedules.
• Conduct first-article and in-process inspections; document results and ensure tooling meets quality standards.
• Partner with maintenance, production, and engineering to determine root causes of tool failures and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain job documentation, tooling logs, repair records, and assist with BOMs for tooling parts.
• Support continuous improvement—reduce lead time, extend tooling life, and enhance reliability.
• Follow all safety, housekeeping, and lockout/tagout procedures; perform other duties as assigned.

What you bring

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in machining/tooling preferred.
• 2+ years of technical or direct toolroom experience preferred.
• Skilled with manual mills and lathes; hands-on experience with CNC setup and basic programming preferred.
• Strong blueprint reading with GD&T proficiency.
• Comfort with precision metrology: micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height and bore gauges.
• Experience using tool grinders, surface grinders, and bench tools.
• Ability to stand and walk 8+ hours per day.
• Forklift and scissor lift experience preferred (training available).
• Mechanical aptitude, problem-solving mindset, and a commitment to safety and quality.
