Business Development Representative - IEEE T&D Conference (Chicago)

Job Overview

The Electricity Forum is seeking an outgoing and professional Business Development Representative to attend the IEEE PES T&D Conference & Exposition in Chicago May 4-7, 2026 and help identify potential advertising and marketing partners within the electric power and utility industry.

This role focuses on industry outreach and lead generation during one of the largest power engineering trade shows in North America. The representative will visit exhibitor booths, introduce companies to The Electricity Forum and Electricity Today T&D Magazine, distribute promotional materials, and collect business cards and contact information from companies that may benefit from advertising and marketing opportunities.

The position plays an important role in helping expand our in-person relationships with manufacturers, technology providers, and service companies that market products and solutions to utilities and electrical professionals.

The successful candidate will be comfortable initiating conversations with industry professionals, representing our publications in a professional manner, and documenting qualified leads for post-event follow-up and advertising presentations.

Following this contract position, depending on your performance, there may be an opportunity to advance into a full-time sales position within our company.

The Electricity Forum is a long-established media and information platform serving engineers, utilities, and professionals involved in electrical power generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial power systems. Through Electricity Today T&D Magazine, technical publications, digital media, and industry events, we connect equipment manufacturers and service providers with professionals responsible for electrical infrastructure and technology.

Primary Responsibilities

• Attend the IEEE PES T&D Conference & Exposition in Chicago (May 4–7)
• Visit exhibitor booths throughout the trade show floor and introduce The Electricity Forum and Electricity Today T&D Magazine
• Distribute business cards and promotional materials to exhibitors and industry participants
• Collect business cards and contact information from companies interested in advertising or marketing opportunities
• Record notes about companies, products, and potential marketing opportunities
• Maintain organized records of leads and contacts gathered during the event
• Assist in post-event outreach and follow-up communications with contacts to help schedule advertising and marketing presentations
• Represent The Electricity Forum professionally when interacting with exhibitors, engineers, and industry representatives

Qualifications

• Comfortable approaching and speaking with professionals in a trade show or networking environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Professional appearance and demeanor
• Ability to represent the organization confidently and explain its services clearly
• Strong organization skills and attention to detail when recording contact information
• Interest in marketing, media, business development, or the electrical power industry
• Previous experience attending trade shows, conferences, or networking events is an asset

The role requires spending significant time walking the trade show floor and speaking with exhibitors throughout the event. The ideal candidate is energetic, personable, and comfortable initiating conversations with new contacts in a professional industry environment.
