Job Title: Industrial Construction Project Manager
Job Description
This role oversees the delivery of industrial construction projects across all phases, from pre-construction through completion and closeout. You will support project planning, scheduling, coordination, budgeting, and safety execution while working closely with field teams and multiple trades. The position combines office-based project management activities with on-site coordination to ensure projects meet schedule, cost, quality, and safety expectations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the delivery of industrial construction projects from pre-construction through completion and closeout.
- Plan and schedule project activities, including developing and maintaining project timelines.
- Coordinate day-to-day on-site activities and support field execution across multiple trades.
- Track work progress and participate in regular project reviews and meetings.
- Identify project risks, resolve issues, and proactively mitigate potential schedule delays or cost impacts.
- Help ensure all safety, quality, and compliance standards are consistently met on site.
- Manage cost control and schedule performance, including tracking projections, forecasts, and performance against plan.
- Review project projections, performance metrics, and reports to support informed decision-making by project leadership.
- Support scheduling activities by updating schedules and maintaining accurate project timelines using appropriate tools.
- Perform accurate data entry related to project documentation, cost tracking, schedules, and reports.
- Review and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction documents to support planning and execution.
- Coordinate with field teams and multiple trades to support efficient site operations and field execution.
- Contribute to on-site safety practices by applying safety knowledge and supporting adherence to safety protocols.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to build expertise in project management, construction means and methods, and industrial operations.
- Collaborate with project, construction, and mechanical teams to support industrial, steel, and commercial construction activities.
- Assist with estimation and scheduling coordination as needed to support project objectives.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of experience in construction management or industrial construction.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Safety, Civil, Mechanical, Industrial Process/Management, Project Management, or a related technical/associates program (BS preferred; AS accepted with the right experience).
- Experience in industrial construction, mechanical construction, or commercial construction.
- Proficiency in construction project planning and scheduling practices.
- Field coordination and on-site experience working with multiple trades.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and construction documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Experience with scheduling and data entry related to project documentation and cost tracking.
- Strong safety knowledge and commitment to safe work practices.
- Ability to identify project risks and support mitigation of schedule and cost impacts.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in tracking projections, forecasts, and performance metrics.
- Willingness and ability to travel, primarily within the Midwest, as project needs require.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency in planning and scheduling software such as Primavera, MS Project, or P6 is a plus.
- Familiarity with Power BI or similar reporting tools is a plus.
- Experience with industrial construction environments, including steel erection and mechanical construction, is beneficial.
- Background in estimation and scheduling coordination is advantageous.
- Experience working in tight-knit project teams and long-tenured workgroups.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with project leadership, field teams, and multiple trades.
- Ability to adapt to varying project scopes, schedules, and travel demands.
Work Environment
This role is based out of an office in Crown Point, IN, with standard hours of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will work closely with field teams and spend time on active industrial construction sites, typically with 35–60 people on site at any given time across multiple trades. The majority of personnel on site are from the same organization, creating a cohesive, team-oriented environment where many employees have worked together for over 20 years and describe the culture as very tight knit and family-like. Travel is required on a sporadic basis, primarily throughout the Midwest, with eligibility for per diem, travel pay, and mileage reimbursement. The work environment involves industrial facilities undergoing renovations, upgrades, and enhanced maintenance, with significant investment in infrastructure and long-term growth. Safety standards and protocols are emphasized, and you will operate within a structured, safety-focused setting that supports professional development in project management, construction means and methods, and industrial operations.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Frankfort, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $31.75 - $40.87/hr.
