Position Summary:
The Responsible Investing (RI) team leads the firm’s responsible investing strategy and serves as the central coordinator for all RI activities across the organization. As the firm’s ESG subject matter experts, the team supports investment professionals on ESG‑related analysis, proxy voting, and company engagement. The team oversees firmwide initiatives, manages client‑facing RI requirements, and works closely with functions such as Legal and Compliance, Reporting, and the Proxy Voting Committee to ensure alignment.
The Associate, Responsible Investing will be a key contributor to the team’s day‑to‑day work, including client reporting, RI data management, internal and external deliverables, and collaboration with investment and research teams.
Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of RI strategies, including maintaining internal ESG databases, running ESG screens, and assisting with new RI initiatives and projects.
- Assist with client‑related needs, including responding to information requests, contributing to recurring reporting deliverables, and preparing materials for client meetings.
- Coordinate with internal partners, such as the ESG Group, Legal and Compliance, and the Proxy Voting Committee, to ensure alignment on RI activities.
- Contribute to RI thought‑leadership materials by helping draft articles, presentations, and other external‑facing content.
- Assist investment teams in incorporating material ESG factors into investment analysis; support research projects; prepare case studies; and participate in company engagement calls.
- Conduct research on emerging ESG topics and summarize potential implications for portfolios.
- Track and interpret developments in global RI regulations and provide internal updates on potential impacts.
- Participate in external RI industry initiatives as a supporting team member to help strengthen the firm’s presence in the responsible investing community.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., finance, economics, sustainability, environmental studies, or related discipline)
- 2–4+ years of experience at an asset manager, asset owner, investment advisor, or ESG data/analytics provider
- Progress toward, or interest in pursuing, credentials such as the CFA designation or the CFA Institute Certificate in ESG Investing (or a similar sustainable investing credential)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and synthesize qualitative and quantitative ESG information
- Experience managing and analyzing ESG or financial datasets to support research and reporting needs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex topics clearly
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills, especially when managing multiple projects
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across teams, paired with a proactive, hands‑on approach

Actual annual base salaries may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, and other job-related factors. If hired, base pay will be determined on an individualized basis and is only one part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include a discretionary performance bonus and other Harris sponsored benefit programs.
Expected range for this Chicago-based role
$95,000 - $110,000 USD
