Senior Accountant

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid – 2 days onsite)

Overview

A growing, multi‑location organization is seeking a proactive Senior Accountant to support financial reporting, month‑end close, and operational accounting activities. This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy of financial data, strengthening internal processes, and partnering with teams across the business to support informed decision‑making.

The ideal candidate is detail‑driven, analytical, and comfortable working in a dynamic environment where collaboration and problem‑solving are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and post monthly journal entries and other required adjustments.
• Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and properly supported.
• Participate in month‑end and year‑end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial results.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improved performance.
• Provide recommendations that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen financial controls.
• Conduct research and compile information needed for internal requests, audits, and management reporting.
• Support periodic physical inventory counts at operational sites; travel required several times per year.
• Partner with operational teams to understand workflows, identify issues, and provide financial insights that support day‑to‑day decision‑making.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives and assist in developing or refining accounting policies.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional departments to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information.
• Actively participate in organizational initiatives and support broader business goals.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Advanced analytical abilities and comfort working with large data sets.
• Ability to work effectively across departments and influence outcomes without direct authority.
• High proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and financial software tools.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and the ability to prepare entries and analyses independently.
• Exceptional attention to detail, time‑management skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Comfortable working at a computer for extended periods.
• Ability to travel several times per year for site visits or inventory counts.
• Hybrid schedule requiring a minimum of two days per week onsite.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally within a corporate, industrial, or multi‑site environment.
