MISSION

The First Helper (Grade 6) is responsible for assisting the machine operator with machine set up, utility, and quality tasks and for performing machine operating tasks as directed by the machine operator.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/ DUTIES

• Assist the operator with operating and troubleshooting machine problems at assigned machine to maintain the production process and run machine at established production rate
• Assist the operator with set up and changeover tasks
• Use machine controls to operate machine either independently by performing authorized operating tasks in the absence of a machine operator or as directed by the machine operator to start, stop, or to make adjustments.
• Load material into machine at feeder to maintain production rate
• Set up machine and make adjustments as required based on product requirements.
• Maintain process specific production supplies and materials such as glue, tape, bags and other production supplies and materials in the work area
• Use manual pallet jack and/or electric pallet jack as required by process to transfer material to feeder and to remove material from machine stacker/delivery section.
• Inspect material to be fed and at delivery section for defects and to ensure conformance to customer and product specifications.
• Use RF scanner for process specific requirements to scan transactions to the Warehouse Management
• Record data on specified forms and complete required line documentation
• Perform housekeeping and machine sanitation tasks to maintain a clean and orderly work area
• Comply with all company policies and procedures including GMP, PPE, HACCP, and JSA regulations
• Responsible for ensuring, where applicable, the product safety, quality, regulatory compliance and legality of all products produced and sold

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent or trade school preferred
• Experience: Equivalent experience or machine operating experience multi-tasking in a fast-paced work environment
• Certifications/ Licenses:
• Other Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: OTHER : Ability to operate manual pallet jack and/or electric pallet jack LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read, understand and comprehend documents such as safety rules, internal quality procedures, and quality check lists. Ability to communicate production issues to supervisors and others in work area. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Basic mathematics (i.e. counting)

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Working Environment: Safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes are required. In addition, task specific PPE may be required.
