Bagel Maker
Coast style bagels to the Greater Oak Park area. Our bagels are carefully crafted, boiled then baked
for the perfect texture and chew. In April 2020 (in the middle of the pandemic), we opened our
brick and mortar location at 130 Chicago Ave in Oak Park – where we have been warmly embraced
by the community. Due to the growing demand for our product, we are looking to expand our team
of friendly, hard working, and self-motivated individuals – specifically looking for individuals with prior
commercial kitchen and/or bakery experience to join our dough making team. (10:00AM-4:30PM) Job Summary
We are looking for a reliable Bagel Maker to join our team. Your primary focus will be bagel dough making shifts, with occasional shifts supporting the front-of-house team. This is an entry-level position, though prior baking or food preparation experience is highly valued.
- Dough Production: Measure and mix ingredients in large batches, adhere to production standards, follow instructions accurately. Flour bags weigh 50 pounds, ability to lift is required.
- Kitchen Environment: Always supportive, sometimes chaotic. Kitchen reaches high temperatures during the summer. Strong staff community that is dedicated to meeting high customer demand by working together.
- Adaptability: Things don't always go according to plan, and we often need to make changes according to the needs for that given day. The ability to roll with the punches is crucial. This job may not be for you if you rely on a more rigid and calmly organized environment.
Team Member Requirements and Qualifications:
- Maintain a friendly and outgoing attitude in a noisy, fast-paced environment.
- 10 am to 5 PM availability for most weekdays and at least one weekend day (Saturday and/or Sunday)
- Knowledge of basic mathematics for kitchen/business usage
- Ability to remain standing, often in a stationary position, for extended periods of time.
- Ability to move safely throughout the space (including navigating slippery surfaces), reach, bend, crouch, and lift up to 60 lbs.
- One free sandwich and drink per shift, plus free bagels and baked goods that go unsold by end of day.
- Being a part of a great team that is uplifting and motivating. While unconventional, the staff is accepting, accomodating, and determined to have great day.
