Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Reimbursement Officer I for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to perform a variety of professional reimbursement duties. Investigates and evaluates the financial responsibility of individuals, their estates and their legally responsible relatives to determine appropriate equitable schedules of charges for services. Prepares correspondence to collect funds; conducts personal interviews with the individual, their relatives, attorneys, insurance companies, etc. to acquire information and explain statutes, policies, and procedures relating to reimbursement programs to staff and individual families. Confers with supervisor concerning the more complex cases; maintains and reviews files, assists in training other staff in reimbursement operations. Serves as Medicare Part B Coordinator; reviews and approves account adjustments; prepares correspondence used to expedite the collection of funds; serves as liaison with officials handling probate and civil cases. Ensures compliance with applicable Public Health, Public Aid, facility department and state policies and procedures, as well as facility form guidelines.
Essential Functions
- Performs a variety of professional reimbursement duties.
- Prepares oral and written communications for relatives, attorneys, and other fiscally responsible agencies relative to the individual’s status.
- Serves as Medicare Part B Coordinator. Reviews and approves account adjustments.
- Regularly maintains and updates the accounts of Shapiro individuals.
- Initiates action to ensure the collection of unpaid statements.
- Prepares reports, forms, and other correspondence to maintain complete individual files.
- Assists in training staff in the reimbursement operations at Shapiro Center.
- Completes and files tax relief forms for eligible individuals.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with courses in accounting, economics or business administration, preferably including courses in insurance, estate and probate law.
- Requires one (1) year of work experience in the reimbursement field.
Conditions of Employment
- R equires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
