Controller

LaSalle Network has partnered with a mortgage lending company looking for a Controller to lead the accounting operations of our growing mortgage company in Lombard, Illinois. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, managing financial reporting, and supporting strategic decision-making such as process improvement and automation implementations. This role requires deep knowledge of accounting, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to accuracy and integrity. Our client will also consider candidates who are looking for a step up in their career into a Controller position.

Controller Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and reconciliations
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
• Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry-specific regulations, including mortgage banking guidelines
• Monitor and manage cash flow, warehouse lines of credit, and funding activities
• Coordinate and lead external audits, internal audits, and regulatory examinations
• Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets
• Partner with executive leadership to provide financial insights and strategic recommendations
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a high-performance team environment
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes
• Ensure proper accounting treatment of mortgage servicing rights (MSRs), loan origination costs, and secondary market transactions

Controller Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
• Prior experience in mortgage banking or financial services required
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and mortgage industry accounting practices
• Experience with warehouse lending, loan servicing, and secondary market operations
• Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Compensation & Benefits:

• Salary range: $160,000 – $175,000 annually
• Eligible for a performance bonus with a target of 20%

Work Environment:
This position is hybrid and based in our Lombard, Illinois office requiring at least 3 days a week onsite
