We’re looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Billing Specialist to join our Elmhurst, IL office.

The Senior Billing Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient billing operations. This position will be responsible for processing complex billing transactions, resolving invoicing issues, and supporting month-end closing activities. Experience in the trucking or dealership industry is essential for success in this role.

Senior Billing Specialist Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and issue invoices accurately and on time in accordance with customer contracts and company policies
• Review and validate billing data for completeness and accuracy, including rates, services, and freight charges
• Collaborate with internal departments (sales, operations, dispatch, and accounting) to resolve billing discrepancies
• Monitor billing status and follow up on outstanding items to ensure revenue is recognized in a timely manner
• Assist with the implementation and improvement of billing systems, tools, and processes
• Reconcile billing accounts and support month-end and year-end closing processes
• Respond to customer inquiries and provide high-level customer service regarding billing questions
• Identify and escalate billing issues and trends to management for resolution
• Maintain organized records of invoices, contracts, and related documentation
• Train and mentor junior billing staff as needed

Senior Billing Specialist Qualifications:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
• 3–5+ years of billing experience, with direct experience in the trucking or dealership industry required
• Strong understanding of transportation billing practices and terminology (e.g., freight charges, mileage, fuel surcharges)
• Proficiency with billing/accounting software; experience with [insert ERP system if known] is a plus
• Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
