MRSGM NA Associate Underwriter, Surety

Munich Re Specialty Global Markets North America (MRSGM N.A.) is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join us as we grow. As part of Munich Re Group, we are a unique organization providing expertise in specialty and marine lines of insurance as well as surety risks and customs bonds with in-house claims solutions.

We are seeking a full time Associate Underwriter, Surety to join the Roanoke Insurance Group division as a hybrid employee in our Schaumburg, IL office reporting to the VP, Surety Operations.

Job Profile

• Handling risks submitted by field offices/agents and specific risks assigned by management
• Gather underwriting information and make underwriting recommendations on bonds/aggregates (new and renewal) as assigned by his/her supervisor (which will vary, depending on size and nature of risk)
• Review of collateral submissions
• Render service as required by production facilities, including regional offices and brokers/agents
• Execution of bonds beyond authority of production facilities
• Explanation of underwriting decisions
• Handling of general questions regarding the underwriting process
• Use internal systems/maintain records (electronic or otherwise) as needed
• Render assistance/support to claims staff as directed, or when requested by claims staff
• Assist underwriters and supervisors as directed
• Participate in in-house training as applicable and provided
• Carry out such other underwriting/claims-related activities as may be assigned by management consistent with this position’s level of expertise

Job Requirements

• 1-2 years of experience in accounting, finance or business related - or -
• Associates Degree in accounting, finance or general business
• No initial Underwriting Authority given; subject to change based on training and performance with max level authority no more than $1MM
• Attention to detail/documentation
• Ability to monitor and meet deadlines
• Effective oral and written communication
• Ability to take direction and prioritize
• Strong decision-making ability
• Proficiency with Excel and Word applications

MRSGM NA is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including Schaumburg, IL. The salary range posted below applies to the Company’s Schaumburg, IL location. The base salary range anticipated for this position is $50,000 to $65,000. In addition, the Company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, 401k match, paid holidays, sick time, and paid vacation. The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in Schaumburg, IL. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
