Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Security Officer Chief for the Mabley Developmental Center located in Dixon Illinois to direct the facilitys safety and protection services and oversee the facilitys investigations. Serves as working supervisor to lower-level security staff. Prepares keyboarded investigatory packages upon the completion of investigations. Inspects the buildings and grounds for fire and safety hazards. Coordinates the facility Emergency/Disaster Plans within the facility and outside agencies. Travels in the performance of duties.

Essential Functions

  • Directs the facilitys safety and protection services and oversees facility investigations.
  • Serves as a working supervisor.
  • Prepares keyboarded investigatory packages upon the completion of investigations.
  • Coordinates and corresponds with law enforcement agencies and facility personnel regarding security activities investigations and rules.
  • Assigns staff to transport individuals to hospitals workshops or other off ground activities.
  • Inspects the buildings and grounds for fire and safety hazards.
  • Coordinates the facility Emergency/Disaster Plans within the facility and outside agencies.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
  • Requires two (2) years supervisory experience in safety and protection service or investigative work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience working with security requirements and regulations for a public or private organization.
  • Three (3) years of experience directing the daily operations of a Security Department for a public or private organization.
  • Five (5) years of experience working with emergency response procedures including fire safety and controls for a public or private organization.
  • Three (3) years of experience supervising and training staff.
  • Three (3) years of experience formulating security regulations and emergency response plans consistent with regulations and directives.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to work on-call on a rotation basis after business hours weekends and holidays.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment including personal computers.
  • Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
  • Requires the ability to obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate including first aid fire safety and controls.
  • Requires possession of a valid drivers license.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm; Monday-Friday; 30-minute unpaid lunch

Works one weekend per month will have Friday and Monday off instead. Able to choose the 1st 2nd or 3rd weekend of the month.
