Licensed Practical Nurse

Job Summary:

Sandridge School District 172 is seeking a 1:1 private duty nurse to work with a student 1:1 and to ride the bus to and from school. The ideal candidate shall be compassionate, dedicated, and highly organized LPN to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will promote the health and safety of students and staff by supporting physical and mental well-being, facilitating medical care, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal health regulations.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Provide direct nursing care to students and staff including first aid, emergency care, and management of chronic conditions.
• Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) for students with special health needs.
• Administer medications and monitor treatments according to physician’s orders and district policy.
• Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
• Collaborate with teachers, social workers, psychologists, and administrators to support student well-being.
• Conduct vision, hearing, dental, and scoliosis screenings in accordance with Illinois Department of Public Health mandates.
• Ensure compliance with immunization and physical examination requirements.
• Serve as a liaison between school, family, and community healthcare providers.
• Train staff on emergency medical procedures, such as EpiPen usage, diabetes care, and CPR/first aid (if certified to do so).
• Monitor communicable diseases and report outbreaks as required.
• Participate in IEP/504 meetings as needed and provide health-related input.
• Promote a healthy school environment through health education and wellness initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Nurse Endorsement required. Preferred not required
• Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois. Preferred
• CPR and First Aid Certification.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college/university (minimum); Master’s degree preferred. preferred
• Prior experience working with school-aged children preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of current public health and school health laws/regulations.

Working Conditions:

• Full-time, 10-month position aligned with the academic calendar.
• District-wide support role requiring flexibility and occasional travel between school sites.
