Travel RN Job Details

• Position Type: Locum tenens (Travel Med/Surg RN)
• Location: Springfield, Illinois (62781)
• Facility: Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
• Unit: 4B Medical/Surgical & Overflow Stroke Unit
• Shift: Night shifts, 3x12 hours per week (18:45 - 07:15)
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 9/22/2025, End: 12/22/2025)
• Weekly Hours: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2000-$2050
• Patient Ratio: 1:5 (days, nights, weekends)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Charting System: Cerner
• Scrub Color: Any solid color
• Parking: Free with permit

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg nursing experience
• BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross)
• NIH Stroke Scale certification
• Ability to float to other Med/Surg and similar units
• Experience with Cerner charting system preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience, Level I/II trauma, and community hospital experience preferred
• Availability to work 2 out of 3 major holidays if assignment covers holiday period
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a busy medical-surgical and overflow stroke unit
• Perform nursing treatments including dressing changes (wound vacs), chest tubes, IV medications, central line care, foley catheter care, drain care, tube feedings, and wound care
• Monitor and interpret lab results and diagnostic tests to support patient diagnosis and treatment
• Utilize rapid response teams and remote telemetry monitoring
• Care for patients with diverse diagnoses: respiratory illness, infection, stroke, trauma, and post-surgical cases
• Float to other units within scope to meet facility needs
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams: IV therapy, physical therapy, respiratory, pharmacy, social services, and more
• Maintain strict isolation precautions and infection control standards
• Participate in orientation and complete required training modules
