Matilda Restaurant is a chef-driven restaurant in the heart of River North, part of the Exodo Hospitality family of concepts, including Kayao, Ay Ay Ay, and Akiro. Our concept blends bold Mexican and Peruvian influences with elevated hospitality, high-energy service, and a commitment to excellence in every detail.
We are looking for a dedicated, hardworking, and passionate Line Cook to join our culinary team and help execute a consistent, high-quality guest experience.
Position OverviewThe Line Cook is responsible for preparing and executing menu items according to recipe specifications, maintaining cleanliness and organization of their station, and contributing to the overall efficiency of kitchen operations. This role requires urgency, precision, teamwork, and a strong commitment to quality.
Responsibilities- Prepare and execute menu items according to chef specifications and recipes
- Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies before service
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation standards throughout the shift
- Ensure food quality, consistency, and presentation standards are met at all times
- Communicate effectively with kitchen team members and management during service
- Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures
- Properly label, date, and store food items
- Assist with prep work, inventory, and restocking as needed
- Maintain proper portioning to support food cost controls
- Work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen environment
- Support the team and maintain a positive, professional attitude
- Minimum 2 years of line cook experience in a fast-paced restaurant environment
- Strong knife skills and understanding of kitchen fundamentals
- Ability to work clean, organized, and efficiently under pressure
- Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail
- Ability to follow recipes and chef instructions consistently
- Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience with Mexican, Peruvian, or Latin cuisine
- Experience in high-volume or chef-driven restaurants
- Knowledge of proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures
