Description:
Position Summary This position serves as the coordinator for significant portions of the medical school curriculum at the Rockford campus. This requires excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills along with the ability to interact effectively with faculty, students, and administrators at the Rockford campus and participating healthcare systems. This position requires significant knowledge of the coordinator position and the ability to train and supervisor staff members. Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinates the significant portions of the Phase 2/3 medical school curriculum by maintaining course descriptions and objectives, scheduling students based on course and student availability, and tracking student activities throughout the curriculum. Resolves scheduling issues to ensure students meet the curricular requirements.
- Maintains lecture and course event schedules and ensures faculty and students are scheduled to meet the curriculum requirements. Coordinates all room reservations for various educational activities. Facilitates and communicates all necessary scheduling changes to faculty and students.
- Assists with the compilation and distribution of course evaluations for departments and provides student evaluation data for faculty promotions.
- Interacts regularly with various deans, department chairperson, participating healthcare institutions, and faculty to provide input regarding student scheduling, committee deliberations, curricular matters, staff issues, and special projects.
- Supervises curricular support staff and oversees their work for accuracy to ensure the smooth operation of the medical education office and clerkship scheduling.
- Provides appropriate data on the educational program to the Assistant Dean for submission to the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the American Associate of Medical Colleges, and the National Board of Medical Examiners.
- Collaborates closely with the Office of Student Affairs to ensure successful course selection processes, facilitate conversation between students and advisors, and communicates all course changes with the registrar to ensure accurate transcription of courses.
- Participates in and compiles reports regarding the educational program for various committees within the College of Medicine.
- Performs other related duties and assists with special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Any one or combination totaling four (4) years (48 months), from the categories below:
- College coursework in medical education, education, communications, public relations, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
- Progressively more responsible clerical or secretarial experience, including a background in electronic word processing and database management systems
- College coursework in medical education, education, communications, public relations, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- Work experience totaling one (1) year (12 months) comparable to that gained at the Medical Education Program Specialist level or similar experience within a medical education program.
Please Note: Completion of the Training Administrators of Graduate Medical Education Programs Certification (TAGME) from the National Board for Certification of Training Administrators qualifies applicants for each level of this series.
