Education : High School Diploma / GED, a valid driver license and a good driving record.
Summary: This is a full-time position. The responsibility of this position is to develop and maintain the transportation program. This position requires knowledge and understanding of basic automotive maintenance and general building maintenance skills. The ability to maintain positive rapport with members and staff is essential. Individual must be able to respond and assist in emergency situations and have good interpersonal, mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. She/he must demonstrate sound judgment particularly in dealing with safety issues and in dealing with aggressive members.
Demonstrate appropriate professionalism as well as a positive attitude in all dealings with members, staff, and other agencies. Display dependability, initiative, and enthusiasm use tact and sensitivity in communicating effectively and respectfully with members, other staff, and other agencies. The individual is expected to learn, understand, and practice Independence Center protocols, policies, language, and skills.
Professional demeanor and strong communication skills are essential. This includes verbal, written, telephone, email, text, social media and other means of communication. This position requires the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team. The individual must be intrinsically motivated, flexible to shifts in priorities and adaptive to changing work requirements. This includes arriving to work on time, following leave request protocols and adhering to established work schedule.
Ability to function in a computer-oriented office, including working knowledge of all relevant software. Is expected to maintain and improve job skills through training, education, seminars, and other activities designed to promote best practices as they pertain to job duties. Some flexibility in schedule may be required to meet deadlines, could include extended work hours on certain times of year.
The position is responsible for providing the following duties:
- Provides transportation to and from the Center and to miscellaneous community locations for members on a daily basis.
- Continually enhance pick up and drop off points and make recommendations for efficiency and to best serve members.
- Ensuring that Independence Center’s transportation program and fleet operate optimally by providing safety education for drivers and passengers, and conducting safety meetings to discuss contemporary issues.
- Trains all staff who will drive fleet vehicles on policies, procedures and safe operation of vehicles including IDOT/PACE regulations.
- Performs inspections on all vehicles and determines needs for repairs and retiring old vehicles as well as sourcing new reliable afforable vehicles .
- Performs vehicle maintenance. Performs in house or has serviced at outside vendors, necessary maintenance as outlined in vehicle manual and as required by IDOT/PACE regulations.
- Performs internal and external cleaning, refueling of all fleet vehicles.
- Maintains proper documentation for all vehicles (e.g. insurance cards, plates, vehicle registration, IDOT/PACE documentatiion, city stickers), and assures required documents are in/on vehicles at all times.
- Organizes and maintain garage. Performs minor garage repairs and assess need and makes recommendation if requiring professional contractors.
- Handles minor repair and maintenance items at facility. Including but not limited to: locking garbage cans, reeling exterior hoses in/out, changing light bulbs, battery replacements, etc.
- Maintains key lockboxes and is responsible for key assignments to staff.
- Courier mail/deliveries to Independence Center sites daily.
- Submits and maintains any necessary reporting/documentation in regards to transportation program internally or to external funding or regulatory agencies/sources.
- Other duties as assigned by Assistant Director.
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including buses and vehicles with wheelchair lifts, computers, video cameras and cellphones. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are for medium duty work. Must be able to communicate via a telephone, email, etc.

Requirements:Ability to pass required testing and remain in good standing with IDOT and PACE requirements
Minimum of one-year professional driving experience required.
Exhibits essential customer service focused commitment demonstrating active listening, focus on issue resolution, sharp attention to detail, and analytical and problem-solving abilities to meet and exceed the needs of our agency.
Excellent phone and email etiquette skills.
Strong computer skills and ability to learn and work in many software environments
