Position: Full Time Shelter Advocate

Location: Woodstock, IL

Pay Range: $18-23/hour base pay. (After 7:00 pm differential including overnight hours)

(Full Time 32 hours)

Sunday 11pm–7am, Tuesday 11pm–7am, Wednesday 3pm–11pm, Friday 11pm–7am

About Us:

As a mid-sized nonprofit with a team of more than 50 professionals, Turning Point is proud to provide comprehensive domestic violence services to McHenry County. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team and make a difference in the lives of individuals and the community.

Position Summary:

As a Shelter Advocate, you will provide crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning, and case management to victims of domestic violence. This role involves coordinating services, conducting assessments, providing referrals, and ensuring 24/7 coverage for our shelter and crisis line. This position requires ongoing self-care, active participation in professional development, and involvement in training, meetings, and program development. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support program goals and client care.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide crisis intervention and stabilization.

Respond to calls on the 24-hour helpline, offering support, safety planning, and referrals.

Screen for shelter eligibility and coordinate arrival arrangements.

Update and maintain accurate service documentation.

Provide counseling, case management, and group education for shelter residents.

Monitor shelter safety and enforce operational protocols.

Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice or Human Services (preferred degree not required)

1-2 years' experience in domestic violence or crisis work (preferred)

Strong organizational and communication skills

Ability to multitask.

21 years or older

Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills a plus (Additional Differential)
