Line Cook - Part Time
Japanese cuisine with a modern twist which includes sushi, ramen, grilled kitchen, and sake bar. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Line Cook interested in enhancing their culinary skills. This position is based at a busy sushi restaurant located in downtown Elgin. The ideal candidate will have prior sushi chef experience and will have the opportunity to further develop their expertise under the guidance of one of the top sushi chefs in the Midwest. Alternatively, we welcome highly motivated individuals who are eager to learn new skills and grow within a dynamic team. This role requires a proactive professional capable of observational learning and adapting during peak service hours. Sushi chefs are committed to continuous learning and professional development. A key objective is to acquire new skills and knowledge on a daily basis. Trainee sushi chefs, who work alongside the executive chef, are expected to support and direct the team in accordance with the restaurant’s workflow and busy periods. Showcase your talents! Job Duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the initial opening and final closing procedures of the restaurant, kitchen, including comprehensive food, prep activities and sanitation protocols. Maintain proper stock levels at all preparation stations to ensure operational continuity. Execute the preparation of each dish component in accordance with standardized, recipes, demonstrating proficiency and knife skills, precise, temperature control, and adherence to portion in guidelines. Report directly to the executive chef, complying with established directives, and operational standards. Ensure all food preparation and storage areas, comply with local health, safety, and sanitation regulations, maintaining a hygienic work environment through sterilization of utensils, tools, and equipment. Facilitate clear and effective communication with serving staff concerning daily specials, allergen information, special request, and inventory shortages. Liaise with suppliers and vendors to foster ongoing professional relationships and ensure timely procurement of ingredients and kitchen supplies. Engage with customers to provide exceptional, customer service, cultivating report and addressing dietary needs or preferences as appropriate. Conduct inventory management activities, including replenishment of kitchen supplies, and perform regular stock assessment of dry goods, sushi, ingredients, and other perishable or non-perishable kitchen items.
