Field Service Power Generation Technician

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Field Service Power Generation Technician / Mechanic to join our Distribution Business in Hodgkins, IL.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

• Completing repair activities on generators or components
• Engaging with customers in a courteous and professional manner
• Perform maintenance/repairs utilizing diagnostic tools
• Maintain detailed records of service
• Adhere to Cummins Health, Safety & Environmental policies
• Ongoing development/certifications on new and existing Cummins products
• Maintain own tools

RESPONSIBILITIES

In order to be successful in this role you will need the following:

• Broad mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance abilities.
• High Voltage / Low Voltage experience.
• Advanced experience with electrical repair and maintenance
• Proficient Diesel Engine experience.
• Advanced troubleshooting and repairs of generators, transfer switches, and auxiliary components.
• Setup, troubleshoot and repair basic paralleling generator systems.
• Understanding switchgear schematics.
• Ability to train Entry/Intermediate Technicians/Mechanics.

Required Skills / Education / Experience

• Strong technical proficiency in power generation systems (diesel/natural gas engines, electrical systems, control panels).
• 3–5 years of field service experience in power generation or related heavy equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals; strong diagnostic/problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively.

Preferred Skills / Education / Experience

• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – optional but beneficial.
• OEM certifications (e.g., Cummins, Caterpillar) or advanced training in power generation systems.

• Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics on power generation equipment (engines, alternators, control systems, transfer switches).
• Lead on-site repairs and maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety and manufacturer standards.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians
• A current valid license is required for this role
• Must be 18 years old with 2 years driving experience
• This role requires a 5 year motor vehicle report, free from major violations
• A CDL may be required to obtain upon hire
• Federal law requires a CDL holder to be 21 years of age or older
