Field Service Power Generation Technician
DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Field Service Power Generation Technician / Mechanic to join our Distribution Business in Hodgkins, IL.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Completing repair activities on generators or components
- Engaging with customers in a courteous and professional manner
- Perform maintenance/repairs utilizing diagnostic tools
- Maintain detailed records of service
- Adhere to Cummins Health, Safety & Environmental policies
- Ongoing development/certifications on new and existing Cummins products
- Maintain own tools
RESPONSIBILITIES
In order to be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Broad mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance abilities.
- High Voltage / Low Voltage experience.
- Advanced experience with electrical repair and maintenance
- Proficient Diesel Engine experience.
- Advanced troubleshooting and repairs of generators, transfer switches, and auxiliary components.
- Setup, troubleshoot and repair basic paralleling generator systems.
- Understanding switchgear schematics.
- Ability to train Entry/Intermediate Technicians/Mechanics.
Compensation and Benefits Base: Salary rate commensurate with experience. Required Skills / Education / Experience
- Strong technical proficiency in power generation systems (diesel/natural gas engines, electrical systems, control panels).
- 3–5 years of field service experience in power generation or related heavy equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals; strong diagnostic/problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively.
Preferred Skills / Education / Experience
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – optional but beneficial.
- OEM certifications (e.g., Cummins, Caterpillar) or advanced training in power generation systems.

Core Responsibilities
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics on power generation equipment (engines, alternators, control systems, transfer switches).
- Lead on-site repairs and maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety and manufacturer standards.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians
- A current valid license is required for this role
- Must be 18 years old with 2 years driving experience
- This role requires a 5 year motor vehicle report, free from major violations
- A CDL may be required to obtain upon hire
- Federal law requires a CDL holder to be 21 years of age or older
