Job Title: Water Asset TechnicianJob Description As a Water Asset Technician, you will inspect various water assets such as valves, hydrants, meters, and water meter boxes for leakage. Your role involves using acoustic sensors and headphones to detect leaks and notifying the project manager of any findings. You will work alongside a project manager, traveling from the project manager's location to the job site or meeting directly at the job site. The role requires using phone applications for mapping and involves working outdoors, dealing with varying weather conditions. Responsibilities- Conduct non-revenue water recovery and control services, including leak detection through sounding of fittings and leak noise correlation.
- Plan and deploy acoustic noise loggers, establish water networks, and identify assets.
- Plan and implement step tests and recover flow and pressure data.
- Progress in the industry and utilize equipment used by the Water Asset Management division.
- Complete job forms, time sheets, and all required documentation.
- Ensure safe working methods are applied and participate in weekly safety meetings.
- Read, interpret, and measure Map/GIS information.
- Facilitate all Leak Detection work requirements and advise on night work as needed.
- Use initiative to find solutions in the field for the benefit of the customer and the Water Asset Management division.
- Attend or conduct site meetings with clients as needed.
- Maintain and check all equipment related to specific projects quarterly.
- Proficiency in GIS and water treatment.
- Experience in water utility and leak detection.
- Ability to read and interpret Map/GIS information.
- Experience with meter reading software and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and documentation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal instruction.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- A degree in Environmental Science, GIS, Biology, Geology, or a related field is preferred.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Experience working with Water Distribution Systems and/or Acoustic Leak Detection is desirable.
- Ability to walk up to 10 miles per day, bend frequently, and lift up to 20 lbs.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including travel and extended work hours.
- Must be self-motivated and safety conscious.
- Willingness to consent to a drug screen.
Work Environment
The position is based in Illinois, with assignments originating from the closest office in Minneapolis. The role involves reporting to job sites daily, working 8-hour days with flexibility for either five 8-hour days or four 10-hour days, ensuring a minimum of 40 hours per week. Candidates must be open to travel, with trips lasting up to two weeks at a time, and may involve locations like Florida, Michigan, and Texas. The travel constitutes about 50% of the time. The company provides a vehicle, a company phone, and a daily per diem for overnight travel. This role offers long-term opportunities to advance into a more GIS-heavy position or a Project Manager role. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
