Director of Human Resources
Job Summary:
The HR Director will lead core HR functions across a geographically diverse and growing organization. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and decisive leader with strong business acumen, exceptional judgment, and a passion for building positive, high-performing workplace cultures in fast-paced, multi-location settings.
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on employee relations, engagement, and performance management—particularly for a predominantly hourly workforce
- Oversee and conduct employee investigations with professionalism, consistency, and compliance
- Partner with field and operations leaders to scale HR practices during continued expansion, including M&A onboarding
- Coach and empower frontline managers to develop high-performing teams
- Identify high-potential talent and drive retention and recognition programs
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align HR strategies with business objectives
- Ensure compliance with all labor laws, particularly those affecting field and hourly workers
- Travel frequently (60%) to support sites across the U.S. and build authentic field relationships
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field (Master’s or HR certification is a plus)
- 7–15 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership capacity
- Proven experience in decentralized, multi-location organizations
- Strong track record in employee relations, performance management, and talent development
- Ability to manage up to executive leadership and down to frontline employees
- Comfortable navigating fast-paced, evolving environments without strict SOPs
- Experience with M&A and California labor law is a plus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be based in Chicago, IL
