Lifeguard
Position Summary: The applicant is expected to maintain and protect the safety and well-being of each patron using the Link Aquatic Center facilities. The applicant will work directly with participants providing courteous, friendly and professional assistance. Lifeguards work under the direct supervision of the Pool Supervisor and Aquatic Director.
Job Requirements:
- 15 years of age or older
- Ability to obtain an American Red Cross lifeguarding & CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certificate
- Ability to maintain certification level for physical and mental readiness
- Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance for possible rescues
- Must be observant, safety conscious and able to react quickly in an emergency
Essential Functions:
- Maintains safe swimming conditions in the waterpark, pool deck and surrounding areas. Prevents accidents by maintain constant observation of the waterpark area, enforcing health and safety rules and maintaining emergency readiness. Maintains 10/20 protection rule while lifeguarding
- May perform duties related to opening or closing the Link Aquatic Center
- Responds to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes accident and incident reports as required
- Maintains effective relationships with members, participants and other staff-Develops rapport with members
- Prevents accidents through enforcement of policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of patrons using the waterpark and surrounding areas; remain calm in emergency situations, analyzes and corrects facility hazards and learns to adhere to the facility emergency procedures
- Conducts daily safety check of waterpark equipment and the surrounding area and reports problems to the appreciate supervisor(s)
- Conveys basic information on YMCA programs and schedules to members and as appropriate refers members to other programs or YMCA staff
- Attends trainings, staff , meetings and in-service requirements as scheduled
- Perform daily maintenance of the waterpark and surrounding areas to ensure cleanliness
- Checks water park and rescue equipment and promptly reports any problems
- Sets up and stores pool equipment and assists swim instructors with class set up
- Receive a minimum grade of “meets” on all safety audits and mock rescue assignments
- May lead one or more ongoing YMCA aquatic programs
