JOB SUMMARY

The Parish Finance Assurance Manager is responsible for ensuring the integrity, transparency, and compliance of parish financial operations. This role provides independent assurance over financial practices, supports parishes in meeting diocesan policies and regulatory requirements, and promotes strong internal controls and stewardship of parish resources.

Key responsibilities include reviewing parish financial statements and processes, assessing internal controls, identifying risks, and providing guidance on best practices in financial management. The role works collaboratively with parish pastors, business managers, bookkeepers and finance councils, and diocesan offices to strengthen accountability, support audits and reviews, and enhance financial governance across assigned parishes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs financial and operational reviews of parish financial records for accuracy and compliance with diocesan policies and procedures.
  • Prepares audit reports to document audit findings and makes recommendations to improve performance to the pastor and parish finance council.
  • Responsible for the parishes’ adherence and use of the accounting system by being well versed in the software and a resource for the parishes.
  • Assists parishes and schools with accounting and administrative matters to ensure compliance with diocesan policies.
  • Works directly with and supports the Director of Parish Finance.
  • Must support the mission, philosophy, objectives and policies of the Roman Catholic Church and the Diocese of Joliet
  • Completes various ad-hoc projects assigned.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting or finance experience.
  • Previous experience with auditing and preparation of financial statements preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting software (ParishSOFT is a plus)
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required; PowerPoint preferred.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

SALARY RANGE

Salary range is $62,000 - $74,000 annual, depending on experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This is a full-time exempt position, with benefits.
  • Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Evening and weekend work as needed or required.
  • This position requires travel throughout the seven (7) counties of the Diocese of Joliet that could include evening and weekend activity.
  • Flexibility of schedule and reliable transportation required.
