Description
- Oversee services provided to individuals in their own homes and communities, who need assistance caring for themselves as a result of old age, sickness, disability, and/or other conditions. Home care may include assistance with the activities of daily living, housecleaning, laundry, meal preparation, transportation, companionship, and respite.
- Home Care Supervisors ensure that employees deliver services in a caring and respectful manner, in accordance with relevant Agency policies and industry standards.
Reporting Relationship
- Reports to Branch Manager/Lead Supervisor.
Responsibilities/Activities
- Ensure Agency policies and procedures and industry standards and regulations are followed.
- Assist with the coordination, evaluation, and planning of home care services.
- Assist the Branch Manager/Lead Supervisor with administrative activities and optimal use of resources.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate strategic branch plans, goals, and objectives.
- Coordinate Staffing/Scheduling activities.
- Supervise work activities of designated employees.
- Develop and instruct employees in the use of practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Provide leadership to employees.
- Conduct in-home assessments and Home Visits
- Liaise with community resources and other agencies.
Required Knowledge
- Knowledge of standards of practice and scope of practice, in accordance with state regulations
- Knowledge of personal care and home management skills.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client and personal care services, including needs determinants, meeting quality standards and evaluation of client satisfaction.
- Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to identify injuries.
- The agency shall have home services supervisors or trainers that provide initial training and supervision on an ongoing basis to home service workers to address requirements in Section 245.40©(4)(A) through (P). The home services supervisor or trainer shall:
- Within the last five years, have a minimum of two years’ experience working in a home health, home services, facility-based healthcare setting, or home nursing environment performing those tasks permitted by this Part to be completed by home services workers, including assistance with activities of daily living; or
- Be in a current supervisory or trainer position with a home services agency and have received training within the past year on those tasks permitted by this Part to be completed by home services workers. The training provided to the home services supervisors or trainers shall, at a minimum, demonstrate the general standards of care for each topic in Section 245.40©(4)(A) through (P), and be provided by or developed by someone qualified (e.g., licensed or certified) in their respective field.
- Agency supervisors and trainers shall be available to home service workers to provide updated and continuing education related to staff responsibilities for client care as outlined in Section 245.40©(4)(A) through (P).
- Knowledge of clerical procedures such as maintaining records and completing forms.

- Ability to monitor and assess employees, clients, and the effectiveness of service.
- Ability to communicate written and oral information so others understand.
- Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
- Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with clients/families/co -workers.
- Microsoft Office and other office equipment.
Qualifications/Education
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Current driver’s license.
- Proper Vehicle Insurance Coverage
Training/Experience:
- May require related experience.
- In order to serve as an Alzheimer's services supervisor working in an entity licensed under 77 Ill. Adm. Code 245 or 280, an individual shall complete at least eight hours of training annually related to the care of residents or clients with Alzheimer's disease and other related dementias. The Alzheimer's services supervisor shall also meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Achieve a certification from one of the following:
- The Alzheimer's Association's EssentiALZ program;
- An organization that provides a credentialing certificate for a certified dementia specialist (CDS);
- The National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (CDP) as a certified dementia practitioner; or
- The National Certification Board for Alzheimer and Aging Care; or
- Have a minimum of two years of experience working with persons with Alzheimer's disease and other related dementias, at least one year of which is management experience working with persons with Alzheimer's disease and other related dementias, and have completed ability-centered care training.
