Category Manager

The Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies across domestic packaging categories for a growing distribution company in Elgin. This role partners closely with sourcing, suppliers, and senior leadership to drive cost savings, supplier performance, and process improvements while managing high‑SKU environments. This is a fully onsite position.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute sourcing strategies for all domestic packaging categories in partnership with the Sourcing Specialist
• Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, holding suppliers accountable to performance and quality expectations
• Oversee and lead a team of direct reports, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance procurement efficiency based on spend analysis, supply market dynamics, category intelligence, and business needs
• Establish and achieve annual savings goals in alignment with the VP of Procurement
• Manage sourcing activities including strategy development, RFPs, and contracting
• Analyze market indices and trends to inform purchasing and category decisions

Qualifications

• Category management or strategic sourcing experience within a distribution or manufacturing environment
• Required experience with corrugated box packaging
• Experience managing high SKU counts
• Proven ability to lead teams and drive sourcing strategy execution
• Strong analytical and supplier management skills
• Comfortable working in a 100% onsite environment

Salary Range: $100,000–$125,000
