Job Summary

Works collaboratively across all Cook County agencies to manage the Cook County Privacy Program. Develops and/or updates privacy policies for internal use and privacy statements for internal and external use. Defines privacy requirements for information stakeholders, business partners and service providers. Tracks, manages and reports risk from potential procedural or technology changes that affect privacy. Conducts privacy risk assessments, privacy impact assessments, crafts privacy training and awareness programs. Maintains database of all privacy information stores and develops and updates a privacy incident response plan. Manages and oversees staff.

This position is Actively Recruited and At Will.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or higher is required.
  • Five (5) years of data privacy, compliance or directly related experience is required.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Valid driver's license is required.


This position is considered a safety-sensitive position. Candidates who are selected to fill safety-sensitive positions must pass a required drug test as part of the pre-employment background check process.

  • Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States territories and Canada, must be credentialed by the World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES) member organization.


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to manage professional and/or skilled support staff on a day-to-day basis.
  • Ability to lead within the established objectives and make decisions regarding daily priorities and the application of technical/business processes for a work group or segment of a department.
  • Ability to set overall direction and hold staff accountable for accomplishing work objectives by fostering positive relationships between employees, leadership, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to use organizational and/or department objectives and goals to identify processes by which to meet those goals.
  • Knowledge of IT security theory; technologies; policies; best practices and enterprise architectures.
  • Knowledge of privacy methodologies and state, local, territorial and tribal (SLTT) regulatory laws.
  • Knowledge of latest developments in technological innovation related to privacy, pending legislation, lobbying efforts, and other early indicators of what the privacy landscape may look like in the near and long-term future.
  • Ability to be on call holidays and weekends and ability to travel moderately throughout Cook County.


Physical Requirements:

Sedentary Work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Salary: $143,923-$155,787 yearly

  • This position requires successful completion of post-offer tests, which may include a background check, drug screen and medical examination.
