Senior Project Manager – Tech Transfer
Location: Arlington Heights, IL - Onsite
Contract: 12+ month contract role with strong potential for 6+ month extension
Position Type: Full-Time, Monday – Friday, 1st shift hours
Our client is seeking a Project Manager to support the transfer of a pharmaceutical filling operation from an existing European facility to its US site. This role will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and driving procurement, installation, start-up, commissioning, and qualification activities for three new filling lines, facility upgrades, laboratory upgrades, supporting utilities, and component preparation and sterilization equipment.
The successful candidate will play a central role in managing a complex facility and equipment deployment effort involving production filling lines, process utilities, terminal sterilizers, and related support systems. This individual will be responsible for project coordination across engineering, operations, quality, validation, equipment vendors, contractors, and site leadership to ensure the Arlington Heights project is executed in a disciplined manner and delivered safely, on schedule, and in alignment with operational and compliance objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead day-to-day project management activities associated with a site-to-site pharmaceutical manufacturing transfer from a European facility to a US location.
· Develop, maintain, and drive project plans, schedules, action item lists, and overall execution strategy for the transfer effort
· Coordinate procurement, delivery, installation, and implementation of three new manufacturing lines, including associated process equipment, utilities, facility upgrades, laboratory upgrades, and support systems
· Manage cross-functional coordination among engineering, operations, quality, validation, facilities, contractors, OEMs, and equipment vendors
· Track project milestones, critical paths, dependencies, and key risks, and escalate issues as needed to maintain schedule and budget performance
· Lead project meetings, document key decisions, assign follow-up actions, and ensure accountability across stakeholders
· Oversee equipment package progress from design through FAT, shipment, installation, SAT, commissioning, qualification, and turnover to operations
· Coordinate supporting utility scope, including clean steam, purified water, process gases, HVAC interfaces, compressed air, electrical distribution, and facility modifications as required by the project
· Ensure alignment of equipment, facility, utility, and validation activities so that the project advances in an organized and efficient manner
· Identify schedule risks, installation conflicts, scope gaps, and technical issues early, and work with the appropriate teams to drive timely resolution
· Support management of change, deviation follow-up, turnover documentation, redlines, as-builts, and operational readiness activities associated with the project
· Monitor overall execution to ensure project activities are carried out in alignment with GMP expectations, internal engineering standards, safety requirements, and project delivery commitments
Experience, Education and Skill Requirements:
· 5+ years of experience managing capital projects, manufacturing transfers, process equipment installation, or facility expansions in a regulated manufacturing environment
· Experience leading equipment installation and start-up efforts in pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, diagnostics, specialty chemical, or similarly regulated industries
· Working knowledge of manufacturing utilities, equipment commissioning, qualification support, and operational readiness activities
· Demonstrated experience coordinating across operations, quality, validation, facilities, contractors, OEMs, and equipment vendors
· Ability to manage multiple equipment packages and project workstreams simultaneously in a fast-moving environment
· Strong skills in planning, organization, communication, risk management, and cross-functional coordination
· Comfortable working full-time on-site in Arlington Heights
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical experience
