Product Engineering Manager

We are seeking an experienced Product Engineering Manager to work with our R&D, Manufacturing, Operations, and Field Teams to deliver unique portable radar systems for safety and security purposes. This role is responsible for leading production test optimization and final product validation as well as ensuring that products released to customers consistently meet defined performance, reliability, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Production Test Strategy & Optimization
    • Own and continuously improve end-of-line (EOL) andproductiontest processes.
    • Optimizetest procedures for throughput, repeatability, coverage, and cost.
    • Identifyandeliminateinefficiencies in test workflows and equipmentutilization.
    • Define test coverage requirements aligned with product performance specifications.
    • Drive automation improvements and test system enhancements.
  • Performance Validation & Product Release
    • Ensure final product meets defined electrical, mechanical, RF, software, and system-level performance requirements (as applicable).
    • Develop validation protocols to confirm compliance with specifications prior to shipment.
    • Partner with Product and Design Engineering to translate product requirements into measurable test criteria.
    • Establish clear pass/fail criteria and guard-banding strategies based on statistical analysis.
  • Statistical Analysis & Yield Improvement
    • Apply statistical methods (SPC, DOE, regression analysis, capability analysis, etc.) to:
      • Improve yields and reduce variation
      • Identify root causes of failures
      • Optimize test limits and screening strategies
    • Analyze production and field return data to detect trends and systemic issues.
    • Drive corrective and preventive actions based on data-driven insights.
    • Build dashboards and reporting frameworks to monitor production health.
  • Team Leadership
    • Manage and develop a small team of test and field test technicians.
    • Set priorities,allocateresources, and ensure high-quality execution.
    • Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) for testing and validation.
    • Provide coaching on troubleshootingmethodologyand statistical rigor.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with Design Engineering on DFM/DFT improvements, failure analysis, and corrective/preventative actions
    • Participate in design reviews to ensure testability and validation planning are incorporated early in development
    • Work closely with hardware and software teams to transition designs into production, including documentation and process optimization.
    • Support prototype and production builds and associated internal and customer deliveries.
    • Support / drive ISO9001 and related Quality Certification forMatrixSpace’sHoffman Estates and Burlington offices.
    • Drive quality processes at both internal and contract manufacturing facilities to ensure products delivered meet stringent assembly and test product requirements.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience
  • This position requires working directly or indirectly with the US Government in restricted environments. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship and may be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance in the future.
  • Domestic and/or International Travel – 10%
  • Working knowledge of RF Systems at a minimum; strong RF system knowledge preferred.

  • Experienced in drawing conclusions from statistics and interpolation; capable of driving root cause analysis and action plans

  • Experience scaling production from NPI to volume manufacturing.

  • Experience in establishing/supporting a scalable product manufacturing & test environment.

  • Demonstrated experience optimizing production test procedures and improving yield.

  • Experience with product level environmental and regulatory tests including thermal shock, over temperature tests with and without humidity, vibration (product and shipping), drop, salt fog, ESD, water/dust ingress, and thermal measurements per applicable standards.

  • Exposure to field validation and customer-facing issue resolution.

  • Some software experience including C, Python, LabVIEW, and Matlab.

  • Demonstrated success in technical problem-solving skills, and leadership of solving these systemically across an organization.

  • Strong written & verbal communications skills, good interpersonal skills.
