Registered Nurse Job Details – Labor and Delivery

• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2020 - $2070
• Employment Type: Locum Tenens (Travel Nursing Contract)
• Location: Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864 (Southern Illinois healthcare jobs)
• Unit: LDRP & Nursery (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum & Nursery)
• Shift: Night shifts, 12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Shifts per Week: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts available
• Contract Duration: 8 weeks (Start: 9/29/2025 – End: 11/24/2025)
• Patient Population: Neonates, Infants, Adults
• Average Monthly Deliveries: 140–160
• Weekend Coverage: 1 Friday, 1 Saturday, and 1 Sunday per 4-week schedule required

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Illinois RN license preferred
• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor and Delivery nursing experience
• BLS and NRP certifications required
• AWHONN Advanced, Beginner, or Intermediate certifications preferred
• STABLE and Fetal Heart Monitoring certifications preferred
• Experience with Epic electronic health record (EHR) system preferred
• Level 2 nursery experience preferred
• COVID-19 vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Ability to float between labor, mother/baby, or as sitter on other hospital units

Labor and Delivery Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care for labor, delivery, antepartum, and postpartum patients
• Assist with vaginal deliveries, C-sections, and labor inductions
• Perform newborn assessments, APGAR scoring, and metabolic screenings
• Support breastfeeding and provide lactation education to new mothers
• Administer blood products, magnesium sulfate therapy, and manage patient pain
• Conduct hearing screens, circumcision care, and newborn screenings
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation using Epic charting system
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and social services
• Float between labor and mother/baby units as needed to support patient care
