Senior Cost Accountant
About the Role:
The Senior Cost Accountant is a corporate-level accounting and finance role responsible for leading cost accounting operations within a multi-site manufacturing environment. This position plays a critical role in inventory valuation, standard costing, cost of goods sold analysis, labor and overhead allocation, and cost roll ups. The Senior Cost Accountant will partner closely with operations, supply chain, and plant leadership to ensure accurate product costing, improve gross margins, and drive financial performance. This is an on-site role supporting multiple manufacturing locations.
Responsibilities:

Manage and maintain standard costing systems, including material, labor, and overhead allocation methodologies.

Oversee inventory accounting for raw materials, work in process, and finished goods, ensuring accurate inventory valuation.

Perform cost roll ups, bill of materials analysis, and routing reviews to maintain accurate product costing structures.

Analyze cost of goods sold, manufacturing variances, purchase price variances, and production variances.

Develop and monitor absorption costing models and blended costing techniques.

Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory reconciliations and support physical inventory counts.

Review and update standard costs, labor rates, and overhead rates to reflect operational changes.

Prepare detailed variance reports, margin analysis, and financial performance reporting for leadership.

Partner with operations and supply chain teams to identify cost savings opportunities and process improvements.

Support ERP costing modules and continuous improvement initiatives across multiple facilities.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

5 or more years of experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.

Strong expertise in standard costing, absorption costing, and inventory valuation methods.

In depth knowledge of cost of goods sold, cost roll ups, routings, and bill of materials structures.

Experience with labor and overhead allocation, variance analysis, and cost control processes.

Experience working in a multi-site or multi-location manufacturing organization.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling.

Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to work independently as a self starter while managing multiple priorities.
Desired Qualifications:

Experience with Epicor ERP or other manufacturing ERP systems.

CPA or CMA certification.
-
Experience supporting lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or cost reduction initiatives.

Background in financial systems optimization or ERP implementation projects.
