Responsibilities
- Perform evaluations and, per physician orders or protocols, administer respiratory care treatments.
- Educate patients with cardiopulmonary disabilities, injuries, or diseases about their care plan and therapy goals.
- Assemble, verify function, identify equipment malfunctions, and take corrective action to ensure safe operation.
- Collect and evaluate pertinent clinical information by assessing overall cardiopulmonary status; monitor patient response.
- Conduct therapeutic procedures to support adequate spontaneous and artificial ventilation and to maintain or restore airway patency, including airway management and secretion removal.
- Initiate or modify respiratory care techniques in emergencies; participate in development or modification of the respiratory care plan based on patient response.
- Document care plans, therapy details, and patient education; communicate goals and progress to the patient and care team.
- Maintain infection control practices and act as a resource on complex respiratory care cases; provide in-service education as needed.

Requirements
- Active Illinois Respiratory Care License and NBRC Certified Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Active American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications
- Cerner EMR experience; ability to work with all patient populations
- Minimum 2 years of RRT experience with adult critical care and emergency department exposure; neonatal/pediatrics experience required
- Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to interpret data from patient records to inform diagnostic procedures or treatment adjustments
- Non-local candidates only: permanent address outside a 50-mile radius of the assignment location; willing to relocate or travel for duration of the contract
- Documentation: up-to-date skills checklist and supervisory references as specified
