Court Detention Technician I - Eligibility List
The City of Aurora is accepting applications and has opened testing to establish an eligibility list for the position of Court Detention Technician (non-sworn) in the Police Department.
Under the supervision of the Court Detention Supervisors, the Court Detention Technician performs a variety of law enforcement support duties in a municipal corrections environment. Duties of this position may include but are not limited to: Process (book) prisoners - fingerprinting, photographing, completing departmental forms, and assisting sworn police officers, as necessary; Monitor and provide security for prisoners in the jail and at bond calls; Prepare prisoners for transfers to other correctional facilities; Provide support for sworn personnel and assisting in related or assigned duties, as necessary; Assist with building security; Testify in court proceedings as needed; Communicate and maintain a positive working relationship with all other bureaus and divisions within the Police Department.
This position requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. and must possess a valid driver’s license. Experience in a correctional environment is preferred. This position may require you to work the 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift. including weekends and holidays and requires the ability to work mandatory overtime. Applicants must be able to work the shift assigned to them. New hires will be required to attend a corrections academy.
Candidate must be able to successfully pass job simulation test, meet the requirements of a physical agility test*, successfully pass a polygraph, panel interview, psychological examination, background investigation, drug test and medical/physical examination. Must be 20/20 in each eye or corrected to 20/20 in each eye and pass a color vision test.
This is a full-time, union position. Beginning hourly pay is $34.38/hour, after 6 months $35.15/hour. An increase will also be given after 1 year in the position and annual increases thereafter in accordance with the Labor Agreement.

AURORA POLICE DEPT. TATTOO POLICY:
Tattoos to the head, neck and facial area are prohibited. Hand tattoos are not allowed, however, there are very limited exceptions with approval from the Chief of Police.
Officers [Police Dept. Personnel] are permitted to have tattoos elsewhere, visible to the public, if the tattoo is not objectionable or demeaning to the image of the Department.
The nature, number, size, and location of the tattoos are all factors in determining whether such tattoos are objectionable or demeaning. Examples include but are not limited to; tattoos that contain nudity, profanity, or to be perceived as gang related, criminal, obscene, sexual, racial, or detracts from the professional image of a law enforcement officer.
The covering of objectionable tattoos with make-up, sleeves, Band-Aids, etc., shall not constitute conforming to this policy. All tattoos shall be covered for court appearances.
HOW TO APPLY:
Candidates must fill out an employment application with the City of Aurora, as well as complete and pass the Adult Correction (REACT) test through National Testing Network by the given deadline for full consideration .
- Employment application and resume must be submitted by May 25, 2026, by 3:00 P.M.
- Schedule and complete the exam (REACT Test). The exam must be completed and submitted by 11:59 P.M. on June 2, 2026 . Please keep this in mind when scheduling your exam. Candidates will be notified via email of their pass/fail status by June 5th, 2026
Visit: to register, pay, and select a testing location. If you do not already have an existing account, you will need to create one to proceed. Please be sure to select the Aurora Police Department/Corrections when registering for the exam.
- There is a non-refundable base fee of $41 for the exam and an additional cost for each department where you indicate you want to apply. Payments are made electronically using a credit card.
Hardship Waiver: If you are interested in this opportunity but are unable to pay any of the process fees including the National Testing Network exam fee, please complete the Financial Hardship Request Form (Click Here) and return it to Human Resources in person or via email for consideration. You must allow 5 business days for review.
There will be an orientation on July 9th, 2026, for candidates who have successfully submitted their application and received a passing score on their exam. Candidates will be notified and given more details regarding the orientation during the week of June 22nd.
Candidates will be scheduled for the physical agility test at the orientation.
There will be two (2) dates offered to attend and complete the physical agility test* (P.O.W.E.R Test):
July 21 st at 9:00am
July 23 rd at 4:00pm
The physical agility test* is administered to measure physical capabilities that consist of a sit and reach test, 1 minute sit-up test, 1 repetition maximum bench press, and a 1.5 mile run.
Candidate must be able to demonstrate the following capabilities:
Males:
Reach 10.5 inches on the sit and reach
- 19 sit-ups in a minute
- Bench press 63% of body weight
- Run 1.5 miles in 16 min: 58 sec.
Females:
Reach 14.8 inches on the sit and reach
10 sit-ups in a minute
- Bench press 39% of body weight
- Run 1.5 miles in 20 min: 44 sec.
