Tax Manager-Public Accounting

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Tax Manager to join their 35 person public accounting firm. The Tax Manager will oversee tax planning, compliance, and consulting engagements for a diverse portfolio of clients, including corporations, partnerships, and individuals. This leadership role involves managing staff, reviewing complex tax returns, ensuring regulatory compliance, and building strong client relationships.

Responsibilities:

• Review and sign off on complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts.

• Provide strategic tax planning and consulting to clients, including high-net-worth individuals and closely held businesses.

• Research complex tax issues and communicate findings and recommendations to clients and partners.

• Manage client relationships and act as the main point of contact for assigned accounts.

• Supervise, train, and mentor tax staff and seniors, providing feedback and professional development guidance.

• Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and stay current with federal, state, and local tax laws.

• Assist in managing the firm’s tax workflow and help allocate work among team members to meet deadlines.

• Participate in business development efforts and identify opportunities for additional client services.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required; Master’s in Taxation or MBA preferred.

• Certification: CPA license preferred.

• Experience: Minimum 5–7 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting. NOT BIG 4.

• Strong knowledge of tax code, regulations, and compliance requirements.

• Proficiency in tax software (e.g., ProSystem fx, CCH Axcess, Lacerte, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience working with clients in industries such as real estate, manufacturing, professional services, or technology.

• Familiarity with, multi-state taxation, or estate planning is a plus.

• Business development experience or an existing client portfolio is advantageous but not needed.
